WHY TO PUBLISH 101 By ra
Why should one bother to disseminate one's work? This is a key aspect that many researchers may have. It has no clear one answer winner. Generally for single authors the driving factors will be
* recognition * commercial values * pushing a view/s * happiness
For organizations thees would be very much the same but with some more impetus
* Sustainability - Most self funded institutions and even those that aren't for most times, depend heavily on the slogan that more work will mean more output and hence more value. Especially on the themes less accepted it is necessary to keep on pushing the agenda through publications. This is of course not very much like the publications for survival since that will signal a more severe situation with regard to staying afloat.
* Advocacy - When most revolutions took place this was possibly a key component in the ignition process. Since if there are issues that need to internalized and acted upon this will fit the bill. Come modernity we don't use publication per se to do it but also other media, however it remains a powerful tool.
* Commercial value - Organization may not be able to have the total fund proceeds from publications since it will all have to be directed either to a specific fund with regulations or it will go into more dissemination work. Depending on the organization structure this is also a benefit in some way or the other.
